Movie Review: Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins (2009)

Scooby Doo

Scooby Doo! The Mystery Begins

Scooby Doo: The Mystery Begins surrounds the story on how the Mystery Incorporated gang all came together and how they got started when they were in their teens. This movie stars the characters Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Velma and Daphne. Fans of the show will not be disappointed with this new story that is full of mystery and live-action.

The cast of the movie consists of:
Shaggy Rogers (Nick Palatas)
Scooby previously named Scoobert (voiced by Frank Welker)
Fred Jones(Robbie Amell)
Velma Dinkley (Hayley Kiyoko
Daphne Blake (Kate Melton)
Garry Chalk (Vice Principal Grimes)
Shawn MacDonald (Principal Deedle)
C. Ernst Harth (Janitor)
Lorena Gale (Librarian)
Daniel Riordan (voice of the Specter)

The group becomes an official group as they all meet while they are in high school through a series of mysterious events that bring them all together. The cast really fits their signature roles and their friendship fused together. Velma’s character seemed more vulnerable and a little insecure while Shaggy’s character was more on the clumsy and nerdy. Fred Jones was a quarterback on the high school football team. Daphne is involved in the drama club, and Velma is a science geek. Shaggy and Scooby were both showed their lovable and goofy personalities. We will see how Shaggy have some difficulty with making new friends and how his friendship with the gang changed along how others view them. Scooby Doo is a computer-generated character but is voiced by the famous Frank Welks who kept Scooby’s voice real.

The whole gang is suspended in Coolsville High School because of a detailed supernatural prank and they band together trying to find out who the culprits who is pulling the pranks. This movie is an excellent prequel for children to learn about the gang but this movie is best for older children age 7 and up as there are some of scary scenarios with ghost faces and poltergeists may scare some young children.
