Health Benefits of Turmeric

TumericpicTurmeric is a powerful herb that has a long list of excellent health benefits.  Turmeric has been used for centuries and the interest in the medicinal herb has been growing by leaps and bounds for the last several years as people look for natural ways to treat illnesses.  This medicinal herb has been researched in depth all over the world but the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) still has not taken an interest in researching it and thousands of other herbs that can possibly provide a way of treating a growing number of health problems. Turmeric is a part of the ginger family and is primarily found within tropical areas of Asia.  The turmeric root is dried and grounded up into a mustard/orange-yellow color powder that is used a spice.  It can also be used as a dye or food coloring.

It’s useful for medical treatment purposes include mixing it into ointments to help relieve arthritis, fatigue, pain, swelling, and various stomach problems.  Research studies have found it has excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Benefits of turmeric include:

  1. Excellent antibacterial and antiseptic components that is helpful in disinfecting cuts, and burns.
  2. Eating it with vegetables high in antioxidants such as cauliflower is known to prevent and stop the current growth of prostate cancer.
  3. Prevention of Alzheimer’s disease through slowing down the progression by removing the amyloidal buildup of plaque.
  4. Natural pain relieving agents and is a cox-2 selective inhibitor.
  5. Assists in weight management and fat metabolism.
  6. Treats depression symptoms.
  7. Wound healing times are sped up and helps damaged skin to heal.
  8. Research results from the University of South Dakota found that doing a pretreatment of turmeric helps to make cancer cells vulnerable to radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
  9. Lowers cholesterol levels and helps the liver to get rid of bad cholesterol.
  10. Positive effects on managing blood sugar glucose levels by lowering them. Turmeric can also with keeping those levels low.

TurmericWays to use turmeric:

  • A perfect way of spicing up your food and adding flavor. It’s perfect for adding deliciousness to your dishes.  It can easily be added to boiling water that is cooking pasta, soups, rice, etc.

  • Consuming ground turmeric as a tea.

  • Take turmeric as an herbal supplement.

  • Create a skin detox mask by mixing it with castor oil. It releases toxins out of the body.   Women are encouraged to apply it to the underarms and under the breast area that assists in pulling out toxins from the fat cells and lymph nodes.

I have found using turmeric and curcumin helpful in relieving various health problems.  More research needs to be done to find out what more turmeric and curcumin can do in helping the body to heal.  There are so many possibilities including turmeric boosting up the body’s immune system and liver detox.

This Week in Diabetes Medical News

What-causes-diabetes Several recent studies have found various ways of lowering the risk of diabetes and improving the symptoms of diabetes too. A study that was conducted by the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Centre US found eating walnuts daily will assist in lowering the risk of developing diabetes and heart disease. Another report through BBC News reports that exercise can be as good as medication as pills are for people with health conditions such as heart disease. The Times felt doctors should prescribe their patients to exercise instead of prescribing prescription drugs. Both headlines are based on studies researchers have completed but they are overstating some of the evidence, as it has been found that it’s better for physicians to prescribe both medications and exercise as a treatment plan. Both medications and exercise have their place in treating the body. Another study conducted in London by the International Diabetes Foundation has found that the diabetes battle is ‘being lost’ due to the high level of cases of people diagnosed with diabetes.  The record has now soared to 382 million people.  A majority of the people who have type 2 diabetes are living an unhealthy lifestyle.  This unhealthy lifestyle is linked to lack of exercise and obesity.  This epidemic has exploded in numbers due to more people in developing worlds have taken on Western and urban lifestyles.  It has been estimated by 2035 the number of diabetes diagnosis will be 55% and it will be 592 million people.

Symptoms of type-2 diabetes

Symptoms of type-2 diabetes

The primary problem is that many people will go undiagnosed for months to years and will be unaware that there is something wrong despite various symptoms.  Symptoms can include itchiness, yeast infections (thrush), numbing, and frequent urination especially at night, inadequate blood sugar, health complications, and damage to the kidneys, heart, eyes and other organs.  If it is left untreated for a long period, premature death can occur.  Many people with untreated diabetes are living in the low and middle class income levels with the inability to access proper health care. It’s important to get a proper checkup to make sure you’re completely healthy and if you’re diagnosed with diabetes then take on the right options of maintaining the symptoms.

Top 5 Health Benefits of Limes by Nicole Leon

Limes the Vitamin C Superfood

Limes the Vitamin C Superfood

I use fresh limes several times per week to help me with my many health problems I have battled with for over 14 years.  I have found that limes have many uses including high in vitamin C and antioxidants.

1.  Overcome sickness.

Limes are perfect for aiding in overcoming the cold or flu.  Consuming lime juice will help the body to fight off sicknesses and disease. Squeeze an entire lime into orange juice or drink of juice and consume.  Limes contain more vitamin C than other citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges.  Limes contain double the amount of vitamin C, now that packs a serious punch! It boosts the immune system, increases overall heart health.

2.  Cancer Prevention.
Limes are known as a way to prevent cancer as it contains limonoid (limonin) which have anti-carcinogens effects.  These anti-carcinogens contain compounds that help with preventing breast, lung, skin, stomach, mouth and other types of cancers.   These antioxidants may reduce the risk of cancer and can slow down the overall risks of anti-inflammatory properties which is known as a cancer high risk factor.

3.    Anti-Inflammory properties
The vitamin C from limes is helpful with lowering chronic inflammation in the body such as heart disease, arthritis, and asthma.

4.   Weight Loss Assistance
To help you lose weight, add in lime juice to a glass of warm water as the acidity in the lime breaks down the fat within the body.  Look into drinking the lime and warm water mixture a maximum of twice per day.

5.  Digestion Aid
I have found using lime juice has helped to ease some digestion problems I regularly endure.  Besides smelling the lime, adding the lime juice in a drink will help to ease digestion problems. The lime juice will help with the digestive process through breaking down carbs you’ve eaten.
