Celebration of World Diabetes Day

DiabetesToday is World Diabetes Day which is celebrated on November 14th every year. This celebration brings global awareness to the general public about diabetes mellitus.  This campaign was developed in 1991 by the World Health Organization and the International Diabetes Federation.  They came together in response to rise in diabetes diagnosis all over the world.  Each year the World Diabetes Day is focused on a theme that is related to diabetes.  The topics that are included cover diabetes, lifestyle, obesity, human rights, and diabetes in children, adolescents and adults.  For the last four years the main theme was about Diabetes Education and Prevention.

A little information about diabetes is that type-1 diabetes isn’t linked to being overweight. The cells that produce insulin in the body are unfortunately damaged.  There isn’t too much that can be done to lower one’s risk of getting type-1 diabetes.  For those with type-2 diabetes it is commonly linked to being overweight.  Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle will help lower the risk of getting type-2 diabetes.

Symptoms of diabetes include:

  • Experiencing constant thirst
  • Urinating frequently
  • Very tired and fatigue
  • Unexplained weight loss and loss of muscle
  • Muscle cramps
  • Yeast infections, itchiness around the genital regions
  • Skin infections
  • Constipation

I use fresh limes several times per week to help me with my many health problems I have battled with for over 14 years.  I have found that limes have many uses including high in vitamin C and antioxidants.

1.  Overcome sickness.

Limes are perfect for aiding in overcoming the cold or flu.  Consuming lime juice will help the body to fight off sicknesses and disease. Squeeze an entire lime into orange juice or drink of juice and consume.  Limes contain more vitamin C than other citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges.  Limes contain double the amount of vitamin C, now that packs a serious punch! It boosts the immune system, increases overall heart health.

2.  Cancer Prevention.
