Health Benefits of Turmeric

TumericpicTurmeric is a powerful herb that has a long list of excellent health benefits.  Turmeric has been used for centuries and the interest in the medicinal herb has been growing by leaps and bounds for the last several years as people look for natural ways to treat illnesses.  This medicinal herb has been researched in depth all over the world but the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) still has not taken an interest in researching it and thousands of other herbs that can possibly provide a way of treating a growing number of health problems. Turmeric is a part of the ginger family and is primarily found within tropical areas of Asia.  The turmeric root is dried and grounded up into a mustard/orange-yellow color powder that is used a spice.  It can also be used as a dye or food coloring.

It’s useful for medical treatment purposes include mixing it into ointments to help relieve arthritis, fatigue, pain, swelling, and various stomach problems.  Research studies have found it has excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Benefits of turmeric include:

  1. Excellent antibacterial and antiseptic components that is helpful in disinfecting cuts, and burns.
  2. Eating it with vegetables high in antioxidants such as cauliflower is known to prevent and stop the current growth of prostate cancer.
  3. Prevention of Alzheimer’s disease through slowing down the progression by removing the amyloidal buildup of plaque.
  4. Natural pain relieving agents and is a cox-2 selective inhibitor.
  5. Assists in weight management and fat metabolism.
  6. Treats depression symptoms.
  7. Wound healing times are sped up and helps damaged skin to heal.
  8. Research results from the University of South Dakota found that doing a pretreatment of turmeric helps to make cancer cells vulnerable to radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
  9. Lowers cholesterol levels and helps the liver to get rid of bad cholesterol.
  10. Positive effects on managing blood sugar glucose levels by lowering them. Turmeric can also with keeping those levels low.

TurmericWays to use turmeric:

  • A perfect way of spicing up your food and adding flavor. It’s perfect for adding deliciousness to your dishes.  It can easily be added to boiling water that is cooking pasta, soups, rice, etc.

  • Consuming ground turmeric as a tea.

  • Take turmeric as an herbal supplement.

  • Create a skin detox mask by mixing it with castor oil. It releases toxins out of the body.   Women are encouraged to apply it to the underarms and under the breast area that assists in pulling out toxins from the fat cells and lymph nodes.

I have found using turmeric and curcumin helpful in relieving various health problems.  More research needs to be done to find out what more turmeric and curcumin can do in helping the body to heal.  There are so many possibilities including turmeric boosting up the body’s immune system and liver detox.

All About Costochrondritis

chestpain1Costochrondritis is one of the toughest symptoms of fibromyalgia that I’ve ever experienced.  It is truly the worst pain I’ve ever experienced as the pain is heavily radiated causing inflammation in my ribcage area.  Several years later I began to experience the severity of costochrondritis and I honestly believed I was having a heart attack.  Not only had the fibromyalgia pain spread all over my body but the intense pain from costochrondritis started from my chest, and then expanded to my stomach, my entire back and my legs.

Costochrondritis is a medical condition that causes chest wall pain around the ribcage and breast bone area which is within the chest wall.  Inflammation occurs when the cartilage swells up is connected to the ribs and breast bone area.  The level of pain depends on how much inflammation there is within the cartilage.  The pain levels can vary from mild to very painful. Basically the condition worsened the pain in my body making it hard to move and get things done.

I ended up in the emergency room several times as the attacks were so intense that I thought I was dying.  At my final visit to the ER over this issue, a physician told me that it sounded like costochrondritis caused by the fibromyalgia.  That’s when I learned the scary depths of fibromyalgia and all of the things it could lead to and how it could affect me.  Any type of additional pain affects my other illnesses too. I learned that I have to treat this pain separately and collectively with all of my chronic health problems. I make sure I get checked out regularly to ensure I haven’t developed another health problem.

costochondritisThe causes of costochrondritis are still unknown but there are various theories including:

  • Chest trauma such as a car accident
  • Physical strain that causes repetitive trauma
  • Upper respiratory infections and other viral infections
  • Other illnesses such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
  • Tumors that are cancerous and noncancerous can cause costochrondritis too.

Some of the treatments of costochrondris vary from home remedies to prescription medications.  Here is a list of several the most popular treatments recommended to treat costochrondritis such as:

  • Apply heat or ice to the inflamed area
  • Usage of over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen. It is recommended that it is best to take these medications with food.  However, for those with stomach problems, kidney disease, ulcers, or bleeding disorders shouldn’t take these medications.
  • There are local anesthetic and steroid injection options to treat costochrondritis. The injection is injected into the most tender spot affected by costochrondritis. This treatment option is available for patients who are affected by the chest wall pain and other prescription medications haven’t worked.
  • Antibiotics are used for patients with bacterial of fungal costochrondritis that has been causing infections to occur.

slide02-fibromyalgia-radiating-painAvoid any sort of strenuous activities such as exercise as it can make the symptoms until the symptoms have improved.  After this has happened then resume normal or regular activities.

In my future posts I will touch upon this topic as I consider a serious medical condition that is often misdiagnosed, misunderstood, and I feel that more people need to be informed about it.

Life Changes

good-newsI have been a little quiet as I haven’t posted in awhile because there have been many positive changes that have occurred in my life. My life did a complete 360 degrees all the way around but I must say it is an opportunity to focus completely on my health problems and finding the ways to build my life back up. I must say that the natural pain relief has been working for the most part for those who privately inquired.

Unfortunately the natural pain relief it is still very controversial but it is an herb that helps calm my pain and gives me much needed clarity.  I can’t believe the amounts of pain relief I have experienced.  I’m thankful for this short amount of time I have to handle this move without overdoing it until I accidently do too much which is something I have done already.  I admit I have been doing a little too much too so hence the “fibro-flare” or “pain flare ups”.  Despite the chronic pain and other illnesses I have fought through it all.

I’m making some big decisions that not only affect me but many others. In many ways I believe I have already made my choice but just like The Matrix film trilogy, I’m trying to understand the choices I have made too.   All I see is that I will have difficulty but I finally have the ability to find more treatment options for Fibromyalgia symptoms and other illnesses.

originalI can say that I feel different and free on many levels to try out and learn what best works for my body.   I feel as if I’m starting all over again in the new place, new surroundings, and more.  I’m happy for all of these options and new options I’ve never even considered.

The Daily Fight Series

file7651303838510I admit that I haven’t posted in a little while, but it wasn’t on purpose. I was sick with the flu for over a month and it took me out completely. I was forced to stay in bed and just wait it out for my body to heal. However, the flu got worse to a dangerous point and I went to the urgent care hospital center to seek help. I had bronchitis and other infections. It took two bouts of antibiotics to get my body back to a positive healing state. In many ways I looked like the kitty in this photo ha!
Some great things happened this month that I was unsure if it would happen. All I know that is I no longer feel the heavy stress that I used to feel and now I can concentrate on feeling better.
I’m thankful for the people I have met through the power of the internet who have been a big force of encouragement in my life. It took time for me to come around and feel hope. Over time the light of positivity grew in my heart and a little flower of hope was planted. It brought about great things that has completely changed my life forever.

Nicole’s Goals for 2014

Strength

I have been thinking about my goals and what I would like to do in 2014.  Honestly?  I’m not 100% percent as there is so much more that I desire to do and adding on moving overseas will make goal setting a little difficult. However, it is not impossible!

A few goals I’ve been thinking of dabbling in:

  • Continuing to write for my blog several times a week.
  • Make new friends by networking with others who have their own blogs and websites.
  • Find free options to treat my chronic illnesses.
  • Travel locally around my new hometown, take many pictures, and meet new people.
  • Continue with my exercise weight loss plan. I have lost over 30 pounds so far.
  • Sign up with a rubber stamping/scrapbooking/craft direct selling company. I’ll be able to craft while I’m in my new home. Also look into other direct selling companies that would be of interest to me.
  • Expand my writing business to various levels and increase my income opportunities.
  • Work on finding my own inner peace and happiness.  This includes doing meditation on a regular basis and daily yoga techniques.
  • Find hobbies that will easily interest me and is inexpensive.
  • Look into trying new things such as zip lining.

So here’s to a successful 2014!
