Health Benefits of Turmeric

TumericpicTurmeric is a powerful herb that has a long list of excellent health benefits.  Turmeric has been used for centuries and the interest in the medicinal herb has been growing by leaps and bounds for the last several years as people look for natural ways to treat illnesses.  This medicinal herb has been researched in depth all over the world but the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) still has not taken an interest in researching it and thousands of other herbs that can possibly provide a way of treating a growing number of health problems. Turmeric is a part of the ginger family and is primarily found within tropical areas of Asia.  The turmeric root is dried and grounded up into a mustard/orange-yellow color powder that is used a spice.  It can also be used as a dye or food coloring.

It’s useful for medical treatment purposes include mixing it into ointments to help relieve arthritis, fatigue, pain, swelling, and various stomach problems.  Research studies have found it has excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Benefits of turmeric include:

  1. Excellent antibacterial and antiseptic components that is helpful in disinfecting cuts, and burns.
  2. Eating it with vegetables high in antioxidants such as cauliflower is known to prevent and stop the current growth of prostate cancer.
  3. Prevention of Alzheimer’s disease through slowing down the progression by removing the amyloidal buildup of plaque.
  4. Natural pain relieving agents and is a cox-2 selective inhibitor.
  5. Assists in weight management and fat metabolism.
  6. Treats depression symptoms.
  7. Wound healing times are sped up and helps damaged skin to heal.
  8. Research results from the University of South Dakota found that doing a pretreatment of turmeric helps to make cancer cells vulnerable to radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
  9. Lowers cholesterol levels and helps the liver to get rid of bad cholesterol.
  10. Positive effects on managing blood sugar glucose levels by lowering them. Turmeric can also with keeping those levels low.

  • A perfect way of spicing up your food and adding flavor. It’s perfect for adding deliciousness to your dishes.  It can easily be added to boiling water that is cooking pasta, soups, rice, etc.

 

  • Consuming ground turmeric as a tea.

 

  • Take turmeric as an herbal supplement.

 

  • Create a skin detox mask by mixing it with castor oil. It releases toxins out of the body.   Women are encouraged to apply it to the underarms and under the breast area that assists in pulling out toxins from the fat cells and lymph nodes.

 

I have found using turmeric and curcumin helpful in relieving various health problems.  More research needs to be done to find out what more turmeric and curcumin can do in helping the body to heal.  There are so many possibilities including turmeric boosting up the body’s immune system and liver detox.

The Daily Fight Series

file7651303838510I admit that I haven’t posted in a little while, but it wasn’t on purpose. I was sick with the flu for over a month and it took me out completely. I was forced to stay in bed and just wait it out for my body to heal. However, the flu got worse to a dangerous point and I went to the urgent care hospital center to seek help. I had bronchitis and other infections. It took two bouts of antibiotics to get my body back to a positive healing state. In many ways I looked like the kitty in this photo ha!
Some great things happened this month that I was unsure if it would happen. All I know that is I no longer feel the heavy stress that I used to feel and now I can concentrate on feeling better.
I’m thankful for the people I have met through the power of the internet who have been a big force of encouragement in my life. It took time for me to come around and feel hope. Over time the light of positivity grew in my heart and a little flower of hope was planted. It brought about great things that has completely changed my life forever.

The Health Benefits of Laughter Therapy

laughingI have been using laughter therapy as a way of coping with all of my chronic disorders and diseases. While it has not been able to keep my mind completely off of the intense chronic pain and health problems I’m battling,  it still has in many ways relaxed my body. To laugh during such a difficult time in my life has helped me in more ways than I could ever imagine.  It would be hard for me to list them all.   I would say that it has saved my life.  I have been chronically ill with fibromyalgia for almost 15 years, depression disorders, and various other illnesses that completely ravaged my body making it impossible for me to control how my body reacts and functions.

I discovered that laughter has really helped me to keep my emotions in check to a degree and I feel a little better about myself.  Laughing has helped to keep my mind off of my fibromyalgia pain and side effects of my prescribed medications. There are times, such as now where my pain is incredibly high and I’m unable to find suitable assistance, I have found laughter therapy to still be a beneficial tool and a coping mechanism through all of the difficult battles I have dealt with over the years.  There are various well-documented medical research done on the effect of using laughter as a therapy tool.  The power of laughter is that it’s an antidote to relieving stress, problems and yes even pain.  Humor has the ability to bring much needed balance in the person’s life and lightens up their load too.

Benefits of laughter:

  • Reduces stress hormones such as endorphins, adrenaline and cortisol
  • Fights against respiratory infections and boosts the body’s immune system
  • Prevents heart disease
  • Expands the person’s views on situations reducing overwhelmed feelings
  • Improves the person’s overall mood
  • Add joy and excitement
  • Strengthens relationships with others
  • Defuses difficult situations
  • Attracts others to us and encourages unity amongst one another
  • Improves memory, alertness, and creativity
  • Increases memory and learning capabilities
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Gives the diaphragm, and abdominal region a good workout including respiratory, facial, back, and leg muscles

Ideas of where to find something funny to laugh at?

  • YouTube videos are a wonderful option as many videos are a few minutes long and can provide a much needed release.  My favorite type of videos to watch are primarily animal-based videos such as cats, dogs and wildlife getting themselves into the most interesting case of circumstances.
  • Reading online comic strips and cartoons.  Both of these can easily be found anywhere online, especially on Facebook.  I follow many online comics strips Facebook pages providing me exactly what I need each day.
  • Funny TV shows and movies are still the best options of watching something that appeals to you and will get you in the right frame of mind.
  • Search for comedians and people in general who will make you laugh. Attending a comedy club is the perfect way to get yourself in the laughing mood.
  • Do something silly and what that entails for me is making funny faces in the mirror.  Eventually I will laugh.  Sometimes it takes time for me to laugh but I will chuckle a little in due time.

 

So please keep in mind that laughter is truly the best medicine.
